Is it normal for my shoulders to hurt and to have slight upper back pain after sitting for a long time?
At work I am usually sitting in my cubicle for 9 hours a day in front of a computer. Lately, I've been getting stiffness in my neck, shoulder pain as well as other upper back ailments. Is this normal?

- Yes and no. It's not good, and I would work on your positioning. I have the same problem, and when I went to physical therapy, they said it was because I slouched. I would suggest a chiropractor, an adjustment is rather cheap, and it makes you feel a lot better. Try getting up and walking for a few minutes every couple of hours.
- Its quite possibly postural! Walk around as often as you can (or just stand and stretch!), get a lumbar support for your chair and make sure your chair is adjused to the right height for you. If you get no improvement with this see a doctor.
- No, it is not normal. You need to be sure your chair is adjusted so you're not slumping (I myself am a horrible offender where that is concerned!) If things don't feel better in a week or so, you may want to think about investing in a chiropractor- youy lumbar region could be out which will cause pain in other regions of your back as well.
