What are causes of lower back pain while running?
I haven't run in a few months but am going to get back in to and work up to a few miles each day, but lately my lower back hurts really bad after about half a mile. I have some good Asics shoes and am running on hilly roads. Should I just continue to run through it and it will begin to ease after a few days or should I stop?

- Make sure you're doing those stretches before you do any kind of activity like that, though. Also, you should go see your doctor and make sure you don't have a slipped disk (vertebrae), or a pinched nerve. If in doubt, maybe slap some ice on your back and rest up for a bit, before going ahead with the running, until the pain subsides. Otherwise, you'll only make your back worse. Sounds like a muscle spasm, or something to do with your vertebrae or nerve.

- It could be your running shoes that are not supportive enough or a hard pavement that you are running on causing the pain. You should try and run on grass as this will lessen the impact on your legs/joints and back. Make sure you go off to your sports store and get a good pair of shoes specifically designed for running only. Also see a chiropractor about your pain, your back or spine could be out of alignment.
