Back Pain

What do you do for your chronic back pain to cope day to day?

Have lots of back problems. I have 6 hernieted discs(that I know, we have never done an MRI of the thoracic spine). I had a fusion in my neck and I also have a hemangioma on one of my vertebrae that is causing pain. The back pain causes arm and leg pain, my right leg goes numb all the time and then my left leg picks up the slack, making my knee hurt. I am 28 and have been dealing with the worst of this for 3 years. I know this will be a life long battle. All of those that have had chronic pain for many more years then me, what have you done and what are you with pain control efforts? What kind of road am I heading down I guess is what I want to know? Just so everyone knows, I do work 12 hour shifts 3 days a week at a hospital, so I am pretty much on the run during those times. I have 3 children. The 2 oldest are in school and walk them to the bus stop. I clean my house, do yard work, walk the dogs, Everything that everyone else does. I am not just sitting on a couch crying all day. I have been working on losing my many extra pounds and have lost about 30 pounds and instead of the pain getting better with less weight, it is getting worse. So, basically, I just want to know where everyone has been in a journey like mine.

  1. One of my friends is into alternitive medicine and has had back surgery. She has a bath at the end of the day. Drinks lots of water. Eats lots of fresh foods, vegs and fruit. Stays away from highly processed foods and fast foods. Does GENTLE exercise like light yoga and walking. I know that standing is painful, sitting is painful, and that after a full day you must be absolutely shattered. Take rest when you can and stay close to your doctor. Hope this helps poppet :)
  2. First try to lose your weight then sciatic nerve & slip disc. Malfunctioing of Thyroid/Parathyroid gland and late on other endocrine glands e.g. malfunctioning of Pineal gland leads to retention of water and excess water in the body and leads to excess fat. 2. Underworking of Sex glands mainly in ladies after delivery of a child. 3. Overeating i.e. taking more calories than required by the body. C U R E : Take minimum 3 liters water in a day. Take Acupessure treatment on all endocrine glands twice daily. 2. During pregnancy and after delivery, take treatment on all the endrocrine glands. After delivery, increae heat in the body, take the acupressure treatment. 3. Drink charged gold/silver/copper water daily two glasses reduced from 4 glasses. 4. Drink hot to lukewarm water only during the day and always after meals. 5. In the morning in one glass of hot water add juice of half a lemon and one tablespooful of honey. Drink it. That will reduec the desire to eat/drink sweets. 6. Chew food at least 15 minutes 7. Drink 3 to 5 cups of green juice a day adding 1 teaspoonful of health drink to each cup. This will help to reduce the body very fast WITHOUT ANY SIDE EFFECTS. 8. Eat plenty of salads adding 100 grams of sprouted cereals like Mung. Also eat two seasonal fruits + 1 glass of buttermilk. 9. Avoid all food if possible. However, in spite of the above diet, if you feel very hungry, take preparations of only wheat or only rice. That will rduce the intake of food. But eat this food only when you are very hungry. 10. Do Pranayam + Ling Mundra + Jogging+Skipping+swimming + Acupressure. NOTE : EXCESS WEIGHT : In the case of females, damage to endocrine glands of Thyroid/Parathyroid is very common. Moreover, their Sex glands are damaged during pregnancy or delivery because of worry. And so when these two endocrine glands do not function properly, these women start putting on weight more around the waist. Because of damage to these two endocrine glands, sometimes even Pineal gland is damaged and so there is more retention of water in the body, which is also one of the reasons for excess weight. When such patients come, their obese figure obviously shows their problem which can be confirmed by pressing on point nos. 8, 11 to 15 and no. 3. At this time of checking, it is advisable to check other endocrine glands too, so you can locate any further damage, if any. for cure, first it is necessary to treat these two endocrine glands for 15/20 days and only then start dieting and treatment on not only these two endocrine glands but also on the other endocrine glands. I have treated many cases, where the weight loss was from 2/3 kgs to 10 kgs per month. Once the weight has reached normal then ask the patients to continue Acupressure treatment and they will be able to maintan their weight and pleasing figure. Sciatic nerve : Due to malfunctioing of sciatic nerve your legs are asleep. Thus, it is very vital that the sciatic nerve works properly. For this reason sitting erect is necessary and the following daily exercise will be found very useful. In the morning stand erect keeping the legs 12/15 inches apart. Raise the hands and try to go backward from the waist as much as possible inhaling at the same time. Then come forward and bend from the waist with extended hands while exhaling at the same time. It will be observed that due to improper sitting and sleeping practice, the sciatic nerve is contracted and it may not be possible to touch the ground. However, when this exercise is repeated, you will be surprised to observe that not only are you able to touch the ground but even go further touching behind the legs. Thus, the spinal cord gets fully streched and flow of energy is ensured all over the organs. It is observed that due to the unexpected jerks and lifting of heavy things, cold, wearing of high heeled shoes, etc. the sciatic nerve gets damaged, causing pain in the legs from waist to toes, knees, etc. There is no damage to vertebrae and so the root cause is not detected even in X-rays. However, when pressed on the points of sciatic nerve (from the ankle ball to culf muscle i.e. 4 inches) pain will be felt. After the treatment on the points of sciatic nerve in both the legs, all pain in the legs including knee pain will subside. Sciatic nerve : When this nerve is pinched awkwardly and constantly, there is pain in hips, thighs and legs. Acupressure treatment to be given on the points related to sciatic nerve i.e. on the back of the palms (point N0. 9 ) and the lower portions of the legs ( from the ankle ball to uper side upto 4" inches both iner & outer side). It has been observed that faster relief is obtained by giving treatment on the points of the sciatic nerve in the legs for about 5-6 minutes. Silp Disc : Do this : Take a cushioned bed 1 & 1/2 to 2 feet wide and 6 to 7 feet long and 18 to 30 inches in height. Ask the patient to lie down on stomach and keep a soft small pillow (14" x 14") under the chest. Then, 3 strong straps are to be tightened - one as much high as possible between vertebrae No.5 and 9. The second one is to be tightened in the middle of the buttocks and third one is to be tightened on the middle of spinal cord. These straps are to be tightened as possible so that the body does not move but not so tight that the patient finds difficulty in breathing. Then take the head of the patient in both the hands and rotate it slowly but steadily and with as much pressure as possible in a round, circle, upper, sideways down the other side and rotate it for 3 to 4 times without giving jerks. Then ask the patient to relax the head and keep it down on folded hands. Now go to the lower side of the body. Lift one leg and slowly bend it so that the heel touches the buttock. Then follow the same process with the other leg. Repeat 3 times. Then take both the legs and bend them slowly on both the buttocks simultaneously. In the first sitting do not give more pressure. The patient may find pain, may cry out in agony for half a minute. But afterwards, there will be great relief as the sciatic nerve gets freed. If necessary, repeat this treatment after one to two days.
  3. As someone diagnosed with chronic back pain myself, I have had great succes with seeing a pain management dr. I have managed to keep up with most of my normal activites.
  4. Hi, The pain and discomfort usually take a couple of weeks to disappear. Recurrences are common and require a combination of rest, medicines and physiotherapy. The treatment Pain relief medicines like ibuprofen or paracetamol, reduce the swelling and are usually given three to four times a day. Local application of heat by a hot water bottle or heating pad helps to relieve pain. Physiotherapy in the form of diathermy or ultrasound may help in pain relief. Complete bed rest is not required but exercise and exertion must be avoided until completely well. The sleeping position that is most comfortable is usually on the side. The mattress or bedding should provide a firm support or should be reinforced with a board. The best way to prevent backaches is to care for the back by keeping the back muscles in excellent physical condition. This requires back and abdominal exercises as a daily regiment. Sit-ups, leg raises, flattening the back and tucking the legs to the chest strengthen the muscles. These exercises should be avoided during active back pain, but the stretching exercises can be continued. How should things be lifted? Dos: Heavy objects must be held close to the body rather than away from it. The feet must be about shoulder-width apart. A wide, solid base of support is important. Holding the feet too close together will be unstable; too far apart will make movement difficult. Legs must be bent at the knees while lifting weights from floor level and the back must be kept straight. The stomach muscles must be pulled in. This will support the back in a good lifting position and will help prevent excessive force on the spine. Push up with the legs. The legs are much stronger than the back muscles. If an object is too heavy, or awkward in shape get someone to help you lift. Don'ts: Sudden and awkward movements while holding something heavy must be avoided. The back should never be bent to pick something up. Don't twist or bend. A person should face in the direction he or she is walking.
  5. do not carry heavy loads and do not bend straight and directly when picking up something. try to avoid activities that can add up to back pain. try to seek the help of a physical therapist. you need rest. rest can help heal overworked muscles in time. try also warm water therapy it can relax stressed muscles. use topical pain relievers for they are effective in soothing pain. for more tips regarding relieving pain visit http://www.reliefmd.com
