What can i do to alleviate the sharp (burning) pain in my upper back?
Every time i look down or tilt my head down (chin to chest) i get this very sharp pain in the upper part of my back (between the shoulders). I'm a video editor so i sit in a chair all day and when i get home i also sit in a chair all through out the night (graphic design). I need to know what causes these pains. How can i prevent it in the future. How to alleviate it. (medication, stretches or any other non-conventional method) Most importantly how to do it myself if possible. Thank You!

- The pain is coming from muscles being too tight and then pinching on the nerves. One way to prevent it is to do more exercise. To get rid of it easily do this: Back: Place your left (or right, which ever the case may be) hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg or even over it if you can, the more over the better it is. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the other side. Do it for both ways and it should free your back real nice. You can do it whenever it might be needed again.
- When I was in the military years ago I was experiencing the same pain. The doctor prescribed a muscle relaxer and it helped. Then pain went away.
- What you most likely have is a subluxation. This means that one of the vertebra in your upper back has shifted out of alignment and is putting pressure on a nerve everytime you move. You need to go to a chiropractor to have this corrected.
- you should try a different position while sitting doing your work try a few exercises during the day to help
