Possible causes of my lower back pain?
For a few weeks now I have been having daily back pain. On a scale of 1-10, I would say on average it's at 3 or 4. Unfortunately, today, I bent down to grab my one year old out of her play pen and got a severe pain in my back causing me to collapse and burst into tears. I haven't injured my back, and was wondering if you guys would have any ideas.

- It definitely sounds like at this point you need to see a doctor. It could be a muscle related issue or more related to the back and spine. I have been dealing with lower back pain for the past 7 years (22yo now) but it did not severely affect my life until the past 6 months. My pain was gradual and got worse until I could not (or rather shouldn't have been) bending forward at all, I got tingling and burning sensations in my buttock, thigh and foot. I waited for awhile to see a doctor and when I finally did see a few doctors and a chiropractor I learned I had a herniated disc (when a disc in the spine is moved out of place). If you have any symptoms of tingling, burning, aching, stabbing pain that travels to somewhere other than your back you definietely need to see a doctor or orthopedist. Hopefully however your case may not be as bad as mine. It is possible the muscles in that area could be weak, it could actually be your hip sacro joint rather than the back, or if in the back could be a bulging disc which is one that has not herniated yet. If you can try to do some lower back stretches or walking in the meantime to seeing a doctor and walk or swim carefully, that should help alleviate some pain. Tell the doctor you are experiencing lower back pain and want an x-Ray or MRI or referral to a specialist.
